OUR EIGHT WILLAMETTE VALLEY OFFSPRINGERIK PETERSON, violin, is a member of the Colorado Symphony and founder and artistic director of this festival. He performs Beethoven Tuesday, Messiaen Friday, Avshalomov and Brahms on Sunday. SARAH KNUTSON performs and tours frequently with the San Francisco Symphony. Sarah, a founding Chintimini violinist who came from Corvallis, performs Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. MICHAEL TUBB, viola, of San Francisco, veteran of many West Coast festivals and an original founding Chintimini musician, plays in the Brahms sextet Sunday. ![]() ADAM ESBENSEN, cello, another founding Chintimini player, currently of the Oregon Symphony and Fear No Music, will join the Boston Symphony Orchestra at the end of this season. Adam performs Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. KENJI BUNCH, viola, of Brooklyn, NY, an Oregon native and an award-winning composer, returns to play Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday Brahms, Franck and Avshalomov. ANNE RIDLINGTON, cello, of the Eugene Symphony, the Oregon Mozart Players, the Corvallis-OSU Symphony and "Crooked Kate," performs Brahms on Tuesday and Avshalomov and more Brahms on Sunday. AMY HANSEN, operatic soprano, in demand throughout the West, performs songs of Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns and more on Thursday. KATIE McLIN, violin, a Salem 15-year-old when she made her concerto debut with the Oregon Symphony, solos and plays chamber music across the country. She performs for the Donors' soirée and on the last two concerts. GUEST ARTISTS and COMPOSERS![]() ANDREW CAMPBELL, professor of collaborative piano at Arizona State University, performs songs with Amy Hansen on Thursday, Messiaen on Friday, and Stravinsky on Sunday. With his wife, violinist Katie McLin, he also offers a pre-Festival recital for donors. TREVOR FITZPATRICK, Oregon Symphony cellist and frequent regional chamber player, performs Ravel Thursday, Franck on Friday, and Brahms on Sunday. FRITZ GEARHART, violinist, of the Oregon String Quartet, took part in Chintimini 2002 and 2007. He plays Brahms on Tuesday and Franck on Friday. MONICA OHUCHI, pianist, a celebrated Juilliard graduate who played in last year's Festival, performs Liebermann Tuesday, on Thrusday in a Martinu sextet, and Friday in the Franck piano quintet. JOAN HAALAND PADDOCK, trumpet, of the Linfield College faculty and Halcyon Trio Oregon, performs Thursday in the Martinu sextet. CATHY PETERSON, Colorado Symphony assistant principal flutist, performs Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Cathy took part in the the 2001, 2003, and 2006 Festivals. Her Chintimini performances are often aired on Played in Oregon. ABBY RAYMOND, Colorado Symphony clarinetist, is remembered for Mozart, Brahms, and Stravinsky in 2004. This year she plays Brahms on Tuesday and Martinu Thursday. Friday it's Messiaen, Sunday Stravinsky! ![]() PHILLIP STEVENS, Colorado Symphony violist, a mainstay of the Chintimini Festival since its founding in 2001, performs in this year's library concerts for children as well as Beethoven on Tuesday. EVAN KUHLMANN, Oregon Symphony acting principal bassoonist, performs Thursday in the Martinu sextet." JACOB AVSHALOMOV, founder and longtime conductor of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, whose youthful viola sonatina was a hit of Chintimini '07, was commissioned by this Festival to compose a sextet for an unusual combination of instruments — flute, clarinet, and string quartet. He has named it Chintimini Turns — with subtle implications of grace and complexity. Its performance Sunday will be a World Premiere.
