AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FESTIVAL SUPPORTERS:
Going for Baroque
A special treat, before the Festival begins, is always the Donor Appreciation event. This year there is a spectacular all-Baroque program, put together by four Willamette Valley offspring coming from the far corners of the country to perform together for the first time.
Soprano Amy Hansen, whose major roles, from Opera Theatre Corvallis and Portland Opera to Europe and Asia, have drawn critical enthusiasm, will perform with Garth Greenup, once principal trumpet of the Corvallis Youth Symphony, now principal with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.
Harpsichordist Jennifer Peterson of New York, who grew up in Eugene and took high State honors in both piano and violin, is now an opera conductor as well as an Early Music specialist. Her ensemble is called Galileo’s Daughters.
Cellist Ann Grabe, having performed and taught in Germany and France, now lives again in Corvallis, where she is principal of the Corvallis-OSU Symphony and of the Oregon Mozart Players.
Even the harpsichord we will hear has local roots. It was built by and is being loaned to the Festival by Steven Baker, who when he lived here built two for members of the university music faculty.
This festive event will take place in the early evening Sunday, June 17. There will be hors d'oeuvres, wine and beverages, and desserts. All those who have contributed $100 or more in support of this year's Festival will receive an invitation.
