Monica Yuki Ohuchi

Japanese-American pianist Monica Yuki Ohuchi has performed to wide acclaim from audiences across the United States, Canada, Japan, and Europe both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has performed in such prestigious venues as Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Juilliard's Peter Jay Sharp Theater, Brooklyn's Bargemusic, and Meany Hall of Seattle, and has been featured in live radio and television broadcasts on New York's WQXR, Seattle's KING FM, Delaware Today, and the WE Network. Highlights in Monica’s 2006-2007 season include chamber music tours with the Five Seasons Chamber Players performing in New York City, Chicago, and Philadelphia, duo concerts with acclaimed composer and violist Kenji Bunch across the United States, and a month-long residency at the Banff Centre in Banff, Canada, with duo-piano partner Sarah Rhee. Monica has been invited as guest soloist for the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Rain City Symphony, the New Millennium Symphony Orchestra of Gijon, Spain, Orchestra Seattle, and Seattle Junior Symphony Orchestra.

Monica has earned top prizes in national and international piano competitions, including the 2006 William Garrison International Piano Competition, the Wayne Nadeau International Piano Competition, and the Dorothy A. Anderson International Piano Competition. She is the only two-time national champion of the Music Teacher’s National Association Piano Competition. She also received a New York Steinway Hall Recital Award.

Monica holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree from the Juilliard School where she studied with Julian Martin and Martin Canin. Her teachers included Béla Siki and Marc Durand.

Committed to music education, Monica is also an active teacher, currently serving on the faculty of Music in Chappaqua, in Chappaqua, New York, and maintaining an active private studio in New York City.
