Amy Hansen
While growing up in Corvallis, Amy studied with Karen Knutson and took State honors. She attended Oberlin College Conservatory, graduating with honors. After studies at Indiana University, she concertized extensively as a resident artist with the Portland Opera 1996-98. For Opera Theatre Corvallis she was Norina in Don Pasquale and Adele in Die Fledermaus. Local audiences remember also her Portland Opera performance as Despina in Così fan tutte, which received enthusiastic praise from the Portland critics. Amy is a Metropolitan Opera Auditions regional finalist, Ellen Faull Gordon vocal competition winner, Eleanor Lieber Awards winner, and Petri grant recipient. She especially enjoys championing 20th Century music, having performed works by Crumb, Henze, and newer American composers. She sang Pat Nixon in the Midwest premiere of Adams' Nixon in China at Indiana University of which the British journal Opera said Hansen "sang Pat Nixon, purse dangling from her arm, with sweetness, handling the high tessitura breezily."

American soprano Amy Hansen has been hailed as an "impressive diva" (The Columbian), "stellar", her voice "clear yet rich and vibrant". (Oregonian) In performances across the United States, Europe and Asia, she has charmed audiences as Norina in Don Pasquale, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Musetta in La Bohème, and Gretel in Hansel and Gretel under notable conductors such as Robert Spano, Imre Pallo, and Paul Nadler. Other roles include Don Giovanni’s Donna Anna, L’Elisir d’Amore’s Anina, and Despina in Portland Opera and Brooklyn Philharmonic productions of Così fan tutte. More recent were the title role in Lakmé with Edmonton and Calgary Operas, Donna Anna in Sacramento Opera’s Don Giovanni, and Pamina in Townsend Opera Players’ The Magic Flute. Concert highlights include New Year's Eve at the Kennedy Center, Mahler's Symphony No. 4 with the Oregon Symphony, and opera arias in a gala series with the New Israeli Opera.
