Garth Greenup

Garth GreenupGarth Greenup is principal trumpet of the New Jersey Symphony. He grew up in Lebanon, studied with University of Oregon professor George Recker, and quickly became principal trumpet in the Corvallis Youth Symphony.

Subsequent teachers include David Hickman at Arizona State University, Vince Chickowicz, and Adolph Herseth, legendary principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony.

Before joining the NJSO, he served as principal trumpet of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. In 1998 he won second prize in the prestigious Ellsworth Smith/International Trumpet Guild Solo Competition. He has appeared as soloist with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (performing Molter's second trumpet concerto on the 1998 Yuletide Classics concerts), the Utah Symphony, and the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra, performing Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no. 2.
