Fritz Gearhart
Exploring unique and seldom-heard music, Mr. Gearhart has championed the music of American composer Quincy Porter with his 1998 release on Koch International and has most recently finished The Complete Works for Violin by Robert Casadesus, which has just been released (August 2001) also on Koch. In 2002, Gearhart will premiere a work written especially for him by American composer David Crumb. Gearhart is currently at work on a new disc featuring seldom heard works by African-American composer William Grant Still which will be completed and released in March of 2002. In the early 90's, Gearhart was a member of the Chester String Quartet which performed extensively throughout the United States. He continues to be very active in chamber music and is now a member of the Oregon String Quartet, which was recently featured in the nationally acclaimed Oregon Bach Festival. Gearhart has appeared as soloist with several orchestras, including a recent performance with the Oregon Festival of American Music, where he performed Bernstein's Serenade: "...[Gearhart] gave a stunning performance...he was in full command of Bernstein's elaborate solo part..." (Eugene Register-Guard). Mr. Gearhart is currently on the faculty of the University of Oregon School of Music. email: gearhart@oregon.uoregon.edu
