Julie Coleman

Born in Newberg, Oregon, violinist Julie Coleman returned to the Northwest after attending the Juilliard School. Her first national audition was successful and she won a position in the Oregon Symphony's second violin section. The youngest in the orchestra at the time, she was honored as the first recipient of the 'Friends of the Oregon Symphony Young Musiciian Chair'. In 2001, Ms. Coleman auditioned and won a job in the first violin section. While in Portland, her experience has ranged from teaching applied music at Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College to playing with groups such as Fear No Music and Pink Martini.

Ms. Coleman has toured internationally with the American Sinfonietta and also with the San Diego-based Mainly Mozart Orchestra. During the summer she plays at the Grand Teton Music Festival in Wyoming, where she has also appeared with colleagues on GTMFs chamber music series at Walk Festival Hall. Other festivals include the Bellingham Music Festival, Cascade Music Festival, Utah Festival Opera Company, and the Aspen Music Festival and School.

As soloist, Ms. Coleman has appeared with the Oregon Symphony, Chico Symphony (CA), Aspen Young Artist Orchestra, and Portland Youth Philharmonic, among others. An alumnus of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, Julie was invited to sit concertmistress of the PYP Alumni Orchestra. Other engagements as concertmistress have included the Columbia and Yaquina Symphony Orchestras.

Julie plays on a G. B. Rogeri violin made in 1667.
