Derek Carlson was born and raised in Covallis by Marlan and Angela, both
professors at the OSU music department. He started violin at age 6 and piano
soon after. Graduating in 1999, Derek received a Bachelor of Science in
Music from the University of Oregon after studying with Kathryn Lucktenberg,
and with Paul Kantor at the Aspen Music School and Festival. He subsequently
won auditions with Oregon Mozart Players and Eugene Symphony. After living
in New York City for a year, Derek currently resides in Corvallis, and is
active with several orchestras in Eugene and Corvallis.
